Women’s Soccer Travels to Mercer on Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team is set to face off against The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Mercer on Saturday at Betts Stadium with a 6:00 p.m. kick off.

SERIES VS. MERCER
UNCG is leading the all-time series 7-2-5. The two teams have tied the last four games, and the Bears earned the latest result during the 2020-21 combined season, 1-0, in Georgia. Prior to that game, the Spartans claimed three-straight wins.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG and Wofford played to a 0-0 tie last Sunday in Spartanburg. The Spartans outshot the Terriers, 15-3, while Wofford had four saves to UNCG's one. UNCG recorded 10 corner kicks in the game, which is the most since last season when the Spartans had 10 in a 5-1 victory over VMI on Sept. 19 in Lexington, Virginia. UNCG now has four shutouts this season. 

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

  • So far this season, Rina Ogimoto paces the team with 12 points (5G, 2A).
  • Taylor Mentzer and Ava Kiss are second on the team with two goals and one assist for five points.
  • Ryen Ortiz has three points this season (1G, 1A).
  • Emma Malone was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts to give UNCG two shutouts with a 1-0 win over Furman and a 0-0 tie to Wofford.
  • UNCG has four shutouts on the season.
  • Opponents lead the Spartans in corner kicks, 52-51, while UNCG has the edge in saves, 49-44.
  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in SoCon.
  • The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.
  • Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.

SCOUTING MERCER

  • Mercer was picked to finish fourth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Jada Moorman and Lena Dykes were voted to the 2025 Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Mercer concluded the 2024 season 11-5-3 overall and 5-2-2 in SoCon play.  
  • Payton Nutzman is leading the conference in assists per game (0.38), shots per game (2.08) and total assists (5).
  • Nutzman currently has 19 points to lead the team (7G, 5A), while Morganne Eikelbarner is second with 17 points (7G, 3A).
  • Eikelbarner was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week and to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week on Sept. 9.
  • Twelve other Bears have contributed points this season.
  • Lindsay Bell has started and played in 10 games in net, giving up 15 goals for 1.50 goals against average. She has two shutouts this season and a 4-4-2 record.
  • In the nation, Mercer is ranked 43rd in shots on goal per game (7.31), 46th in goals (27), 52nd in total points (77), 53rd in scoring offense (15.69), 55th in total assists (23) and 56th in points per game (5.92).

UNCG will split its time next week at home on Thursday, Oct. 16 versus The Citadel with a 6:00 p.m. kick off, before traveling to Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 19 for a game at 1:00 p.m.
