GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team fell to Western Carolina, 2-0, on Sunday at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG got an early jump in the game, recording a corner kick in the first 30 seconds and looked to build as Ava Kiss and Lydia Hindt both had shots in the sixth minute of the game. In the 23rd minute of play, the Catamounts went up 1-0 on Isabella DeMarco's goal. Milla Syska headed a ball forward from the midfield to DeMarco who met the bouncing ball and found the back of the net at 22:40. Western Carolina went into halftime with the slight edge in shots, 7-6.

UNCG gained some momentum by holding possession during the beginning of the second half and tallying four shots to Western Carolina's one. The Spartans drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box in the 79th minute. Merle Greulich stood over the ball to take the set piece and curved the ball around the four-man wall, but the Catamounts' Leanne Trudel was there for the save. Later in the half, UNCG's Emma Malone was called for a foul inside the box and Western Carolina was granted a penalty kick. Naya Marcil buried the shot to the back right corner at 86:50 for a 2-0 lead.
