Coastal Carolina’s Offense Dominates in Win Over Softball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to non-conference foe Coastal Carolina, 14-5, in five innings on Tuesday at UNCG Softball Stadium.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to non-conference foe Coastal Carolina, 14-5, in five innings on Tuesday at UNCG Softball Stadium.
UNCG is 32-13 overall and Coastal Carolina is 33-12 overall.
- Coastal Carolina got the scoring started as Georgia Hood hit a two-run homer to center field for a 2-0 lead.
- Grace Loftin's 12th homer of the season cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
- The Chanticleers added five runs in the top of the second from a solo home run from McKennah Metzger and a grand slam from Libby Pippin for a 7-1 advantage.
- With two outs in the bottom of the second and a runner on first, Meredith Harwood poked the ball out to left center for an RBI double, cutting the deficit to five, 7-2.
- Metzger crushed another ball over the wall for a solo homer in the top of the third with one out giving Coastal Carolina a six-run lead, 8-2.
- The Chants loaded the bases and Delaney Keith hit a bases-clearing double to add three more runs for a 11-2 lead.
- Coastal Carolina's offense continued as Keirstin Roose and Reese Collier each hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to give the Chants an 11-run cushion, 13-2.
- UNCG responded with three runs runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth which included Jessie Shipley's 10th homer of the season.
- Harwood then tallied her second double of the game and then Macy Michael launched her eighth home run of the season to put the score at 13-5.
- The Chanticleers pushed across one more run in the top of the fifth, 14-5, before they secured the win by stranding one Spartan on base in the bottom of the frame.
