GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team won its fourth The Southern Conference (SoCon) series this season after defeating ETSU 3-1 on Saturday at UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans totaled 10 hits in the victory for their 16th game with double-figure hits this season.

UNCG is 34-14 overall and 11-4 in the SoCon and ETSU is 15-31 overall and 4-11 in the league. The Spartans remain tied for first with Samford, but have the edge over the Bulldogs after winning the series against them.

  • In the first four innings of play, ETSU tallied one hit while the Spartans totaled six and neither team pushed across a run.
  • After a 1-2-3 fifth inning for Jorde Chartrand in the circle, UNCG's Nya South hit a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded to score Grace Loftin from third for a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the frame.
  • Loftin's two-out two-run double to right-center in the bottom of the sixth extended the Spartans lead to 3-0.
  • Macy Michael hit a single to left field and Kaylyn Belfield reached on a bunt single to eventually score the insurance runs for UNCG.
  • ETSU's Cameron Young began the top of the seventh with a single to center field and then Taylor Suchy walked with one out.
  • Whitney Boone, who pinch hit for the Bucs, connected with a pitch and sent it to the right side for a fielding error, which gave Young enough time to score from third, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
  • Chartrand was able to strike out her fifth batter for the second out and then secured the win with a foul out to hold on for the 3-1 win.
