Softball Shuts Out Towson, Falls to George Washington
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team shut out Towson, 5-0, and then fell to George Washington, 2-1, on the final day of the UNCG Invitational on Sunday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
The shutout was the Spartans' second of the season and are now 11-3 overall.
GAME 1: UNCG 5 – Towson 0
- Rylie Williams was the only Spartan to have a multi-hit game, swinging 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, four RBI and two home runs.
- In the circle, Jorde Chartrand pitched 7.0 innings, struck out a season-best nine strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
- After retiring three-straight batters, the Spartans went to the plate and with the bases loaded, Betsy Eatmon drove in a run for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- Following two scoreless innings, UNCG scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead.
- With two outs and runners on first and second, Williams crushed a 2-1 count over the left field wall for a three-run blast, her fifth homer of the season and seventh of her career.
- Chartrand struck out three-straight batters in the top of the fifth and then got out of a jam with back-to-back strikeouts.
- Williams punched out her second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to extend UNCG's lead to 6-0.
- Chartrand once again got it done in the circle and retired three-straight batters on two ground outs and a pop up to hold on for her first win of the season.

GAME 2: UNCG 1 - George Washington 2
- Kaylyn Belfield went 3-for-3 with one walk.
- After four scoreless innings, George Washington finally capitalized with runners on base in the top of the fifth.
- The Revolutionairies put runners on second and third following a sacrifice bunt and Cadence Gilliland's sacrifice fly to center field drove in one run before an error gave George Washington a 2-0 lead.
- UNCG threatened in the bottom of the sixth but stranded two runners on base.
- With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Williams hit a double to deep left field and was moved over to third on a ground out.
- Laney Deane, who pinch hit, drove in Williams on a single to right center, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
- The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs after Samantha Beck hit a single to left field, but UNCG came up short after a running miscue leaving the Revolutionaries heading home with a 2-1 win.
