Elon Tops Women’s Tennis, 6-1

ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team lost a 6-1 non-conference match to the Elon Phoenix on Wednesday at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team lost a 6-1 non-conference match to the Elon Phoenix on Wednesday at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

"Elon has a very competitive team this year," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo. "I am very pleased with Lauren's comeback win at three."

Elon tallied the first point of the day after securing all three doubles matches. Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding defeated Olivia Gallagher and Alexandra Dodashev, 6-0, on court one. Miray Konar and Heidi Bulger secured a 1-0 lead for the Phoenix after notching a 6-3 win over Lauren Thomson and Ella Olexa on court three. Helen Sarikulaya and Lisa Kranec recorded a 6-2 win over Raegan Mitchell and Sydney Bly at No. 2 doubles as the Phoenix held a 1-0 lead going into singles action.

Bergeron defeated Gallagher at No. 1 singles, giving the Phoenix a 2-0 lead. Reding notched a win by retirement over Dodashev on court two. Kranec clinched the match for Elon with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Urso in No. 6 singles to make it 4-0 Elon. Thomson was able to get the Spartans on the board by securing a 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) battle over Sarikulaya on court three. However, Elon tallied the next two points for the 6-1 win. Bulger defeated Bly, 6-3, 6-2, before Cordisco earned a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) game over Birkevold on court five.
