Birkevold Named to SoCon All-Freshman Team
SoCon Announces Women's Tennis Postseason Awards
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elisabeth Birkevold of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team has been named to The Southern Conference (SoCon) All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
In her freshman campaign, Birkevold finished the regular season with a 6-11 overall singles record and 1-2 in the SoCon. She nodded four overall doubles wins this season and posted three of those wins when competing with Lauren Thomson. Two of those three doubles wins that Birkevold and Thomson won helped the team secure the doubles point for the eventual victory.
"I am so proud of Elisabeth," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo. "She has a very professional attitude toward her tennis and is just scratching the surface of what she is capable of."
The last time a Spartan was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team was back in 2019 when Erika Barquero earned the honor. The 2019 season was also the last time UNCG picked up an All-Conference recognition. In addition to Barquero being named to the All-Freshman Team, Nancy Bridges was tabbed to the First Singles Team, while Barquero and Bridges both earned a spot on the First Doulbes Team that season.
