Volleyball to Conclude Non-Conference Stanza Hosting Greensboro Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will conclude its non-conference schedule this week by hosting the Greensboro Invitational in Fleming Gym from Sept. 20-21.
The Spartans will welcome in Tennessee Tech, Georgetown and Marshall for the two-day event.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- UNCG comes into the week with a 4-5 overall record on the 2024 stanza.
- Head Coach Felicia Turner is in her second season at the helm of the UNCG volleyball team in 2024.
- Assistant Coach Trent Dunahoo is in his second season with the Spartans, while Assistant Coach Justin Paggao was added to the coaching staff in the summer of 2024.
- UNCG was picked to finish ninth in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The 2024 squad features seven returners and 10 newcomers (five freshmen and five transfers).
- Allie Sweet leads the SoCon in four statistical categories: attacks per set (12.35), kills per set (4.32), points per set (4.79) and kills (147).
- Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2, in the first round of weekly awards for the 2024 season.
- Izora Gragg is second in the conference with a 10.12 assists per set average and is third with 344 total assists this season.
- Madeline Timmerman is leading the team with 12 service aces and 33.0 blocks at the net.
- Chloe Nussbaum stands out as the libero this season, pacing the squad with 136 digs.
- UNCG leads its opponents this season in service aces, 54-49, and blocks, 68.5-63.0.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG went 1-2 at the Hokie Invitational last weekend after defeating Norfolk State in a straight-set sweep, but falling to Cleveland State, 3-1, and Virginia Tech, 3-0.
- Emily Hanlon was named to the Hokie Invitational All-Tournament Team after recording a total of 25 kills, three digs and 10.0 total blocks for 30 points.
- Madeline stood out at the net for the Spartans last week, recording a total of 10.0 total blocks, averaging one block per set. She added 21 kills, two service aces and four digs on the three-match weekend.
- Gragg led the Spartans as the setter with 102 total assists, averaging 10.20 assist per set across 10 sets played. The sophomore added three kills, one service ace and 4.0 total blocks.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE TECH
- The Golden Eagles come to Greensboro with a 9-0 mark on the 2024 season.
- Tennessee Tech has won its last four matches in straight sets.
- The team most recently took down Nicholls, West Georgia and Radford in the Golden Eagle Invitational in Cookeville, Tennessee.
- Tennessee Tech is pacing the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in six statistical categories: aces per set (2.34), assists per set (12.86), hitting percentage (.261), kills per set (14.14), match win-loss percentage (1.000) and team service aces (68).
- Madolyn Isringhausen is ranked fifth in the country in three categories: aces per set (0.76), points per set (5.60) and service aces (22).
- Jordan Karlen is pacing the OVC in total assists with 320 and assists per set with an 11.03 average.

The Spartans are 1-1 in the overall series against the Golden Eagles. UNCG came away with the 3-2 neutral site victory during the 2015 season in Knoxville, Tennessee. However, Tennessee Tech was able to snag the first matchup between the two teams, 3-1 coming in Fleming Gym.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
- The Hoyas head into the weekend with a 7-2 overall record on non-conference play.
- Georgetown most recently took a weekend sweep in its home tournament after taking down IU Indianapolis, 3-1, Rider, 3-0, and George Washington, 3-1.
- The Hoyas lead the Big East in assists per set with a 13.00 average and kills per set with a 14.03 average.
- Dionna Mitchell paces the team on the outside with 127 kills this season.
- Karis Park and Vaughan Anoai leads the Hoyas on the defensive end with 131 digs and 42.0 total blocks, respectively.
- Emily Wen stands out as the setter for the team with 265 assists.
SERIES HISTORY VS GEORGETOWN
Georgetown leads in the overall series against UNCG at 2-0. The two teams last met on Sept. 14, 2019, when the Hoyas captured a 3-0 win in Williamsburg, Virginia.
SCOUTING MARSHALL
- The Herd come into the Greensboro Invitational with a 6-4 overall record this season.
- Marshall most recently dropped a mid-week matchup with Eastern Kentucky, 3-1, in Huntington, West Virginia.
- As a team, the Herd is pacing the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) with 622 digs and 1,395 total attacks.
- Peyton Neal ranks 18th nationally and leads the SBC with 173 digs this season.
- Brynn Brown is one of four players in the country to have captured a triple-double three times this season.
- Brown leads The Herd with 101 kills and 217 assists this season.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will begin their SoCon schedule with a trip to ETSU on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Brooks Gymnasium in Johnson City, Tennessee. The squad will return home to host Furman on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
The matchup against the Paladins will be a military appreciation game. In addition, the first 60 fans in attendance will receive a FREE Krispy Kreme donut! All regular season home games are free admission.
