Volleyball Drops Contest at Furman, 3-1
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to the Furman Paladins (12-25, 16-25, 25-21, 17-25) in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday night in Greenville, South Carolina, in Alley Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Furman began the match with a strong start, notching a 6-0 run to get things going. A little later with Furman leading, 8-4, a kill from Allie Sweet sparked a 4-0 Spartan run to tie things at 8-8. However, the Paladins quickly responded with five-straight points to hold the Spartans from taking a lead in the first frame. The Paladins secured set one, 25-12.
Set 2 – The Paladins got on the board first in set two with back-to-back points, but the Spartans bounced back with a 3-0 run to take their first lead of the match, 3-2. After both teams traded points, Furman recorded a 4-0 run to take a 7-4 advantage, holding the lead for the remainder of the game. A final set-point kill from Furman's Kacie Moore granted the home team with set two, 25-16.
Set 3 – The Spartans tallied the first point of the third set, but Furman countered with a quick 3-0 run to take a 3-1 lead. Later on, with the Paladins holding a 7-4 advantage, a kill from Elenoa Sing began a 7-1 UNCG run to make it 11-8 Spartans. With a .484 hitting percentage, the Spartans maintained the advantage for the remainder of the set, ending the game with three unanswered points to secure the game, 25-21.
Set 4 – Furman picked up the momentum in set four, getting out to an 8-1 advantage to never allow UNCG to lead in the final stanza. UNCG turned on the jets later in the set, securing a 7-1 run to make it a three-point game, 20-17. However, the Paladins were able to maintain control to earn the fourth set, 25-17, for the 3-1 win.
