GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team claimed a 3-1 victory over Gardner-Webb (25-27, 25-12, 25-12, 25-22) on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina, in Fleming Gymnasium.

With the win over the Runnin' Bulldogs, UNCG advances to 3-0 overall this season. The last time UNCG started off a season 3-0 was in 2012, when the team notched three consecutive wins at the North Carolina Central Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The first set was evenly matched with both teams exchanging the lead three times and tying things up nine times throughout. With the Runnin' Bulldogs on top, 13-10, the Spartans put together a 7-1 stretch to make it 17-14 UNCG. However, with the Blue & Gold in control 24-21, Gardner-Webb strung together a 6-1 spurt to claim the first set, 27-25.

Set 2 – Gardner-Webb built a 3-1 stretch to get the second frame started. A kill from Allie Sweet sparked a six-point swing for UNCG to take control, 7-3 and never look back. A kill from Connore' Siler-Nixon, following a Gardner-Webb attack error allowed the Spartans to walk away comfortably with set two, 25-12.

Set 3 – The Spartans rattled off four-straight points to never allow the Runnin' Bulldogs to lead in the third stanza. Two final kills from Sweet and McKenna Timmerman pushed UNCG to notch game three, 25-12, for the 2-1 lead in the match.

Set 4 – The momentum swung back-and-forth in the early goings of set four. Gardner-Webb tallied its last lead of the match at 10-9 before UNCG captured five unanswered points for a 14-10 cushion. With the Spartans in control, 24-19, the Bulldogs fought back with three-straight points, but Sweet closed out the match with one final kill for the 3-1 win.
