Sweet & Nussbaum Earn SoCon Weekly Honors
SoCon Announces Volleyball Players of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore outside hitter Allie Sweet and sophomore libero Chloe Nussbaum of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team have received Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday.
Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Nussbaum earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week in the first round of weekly awards in the 2025 season.
Sweet picked up her third SoCon Offensive Player of the Week award of her career and first of the season after recording 51 kills and averaging 4.46 kills per set in the first week of play. She matched her career-best of 27 kills in the team's season opening win over Queens on Friday. The Woodstock, Georgia, native registered her sixth double-double of her career and first of the season after leading the team's 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday with 18 kills and adding 11 digs.
"Getting this award at the start of the season is such an honor and momentum boost," said Sweet. "We have put in so much work and still have so much to work towards this season. This is just the beginning!"
Nussbuam's SoCon Defensive Player of the Week award is her first conference accolade of her career. The libero stood out defensively this week with a .979 reception percentage and a 6.64 digs per set average over 11 sets. The La Cañada Flintridge, California, native recorded her first career double-double after achieving new match-highs of 33 digs and 10 assists in the 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
"Being named SoCon Defensive Player of the week is a huge honor and I am so grateful," said Nussbaum. "This award really speaks to how locked in we are as a team. We have built up trust and communication this season. I am excited to keep working hard!"
The last time two Spartans earned SoCon Player of the Week nods in the same week was in the 2022 season. Kayla White was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Jenna Wiggs earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week during the final round of awards that season.
With the win over the Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday, UNCG sits at 3-0 overall this season. The last time UNCG started off a season 3-0 was in 2012, when the team notched three consecutive wins at the North Carolina Central Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.
