UNC Greensboro is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Ezekiel Robinson Staff Emeritus Award, an esteemed honor that recognizes retired staff members for their long, distinguished records of service, dedication, and leadership. This year, we celebrate the exceptional contributions of three remarkable individuals whose impact continues to resonate within our campus community.
Dawn Wyrick
School of Nursing
Dawn Wyrick began her career at UNCG in 1998, dedicating 20 years to the School of Nursing before her retirement in 2018. Throughout her tenure, Dawn exemplified unwavering commitment to excellence, most notably being awarded the Avahleen Cain Staff Award for the 2013-2014 academic year. This award recognized her commendable dedication to duty, high professional standards, and excellence in leadership, all of which furthered the mission of the School of Nursing and UNCG.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dawn’s impact was deeply felt on a personal level. As an administrative assistant, her exceptional student-centered service and relentless support were critical to the success of her colleagues and the programs she managed. Her legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and going above and beyond, ensuring that the School of Nursing was not just a place of learning, but a community. Dawn’s contributions continue to be celebrated, and her presence is still missed by all who had the privilege to work alongside her.
Jan Albrecht
Information Technology Services (ITS)
Jan’s journey with UNCG began in 1988 as a temporary employee at the Library, quickly transitioning into a permanent role within the Information Technology Services (ITS) division. Over her remarkable 35-year career, Jan provided invaluable administrative support, first to an ITS director and then to the broader division.
Jan’s commitment to the university extended beyond her professional duties. As a dedicated member of the Staff Senate, she served in multiple leadership roles, advocating for employee rights and aligning UNCG’s policies with those of other UNC System schools. Her efforts were instrumental in recognizing Memorial Day as a holiday for UNCG employees. In 2019, her tireless advocacy was honored with the UNC Staff Assembly Thomas Ross, Sr. Visionary Leader Award, highlighting her legacy of leadership and service.
Helen Ward

Mrs. Ward’s more than 30-year career at UNCG has been marked by a consistent commitment to excellence, professionalism, and leadership. Her work within Campus Enterprises, particularly in shaping the Parking and Campus Access Management mediation program, has left a lasting impact on the university. Mrs. Ward’s influence extends far beyond her professional achievements. As a mentor, colleague, and friend, she has fostered a culture of collaboration and continuous learning, embodying the values and ethos of UNCG.
