SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native notched his first collegiate win at the Bryan National Collegiate on Tuesday behind an eight-under-par (208) over the three-day tournament, leading the team to first place. Hernandez carded rounds of 68-69-71 over the three-day tournament. The sophomore recorded a total of 15 birdies at the event, with five birdies apiece each round.

"This being my first SoCon weekly award means a lot because it just keeps adding to the win I had yesterday," said Hernandez. This recognition makes me want to keep pushing harder and practicing harder to keep achieving these goals. "This being my first weekly award just lets me know that I could win college tournaments and be rewarded with achievements like this. This is just another boost for me and the team to help us succeed for the rest of the season."

Hernandez was named SoCon Freshman of the Year and to the SoCon All-Freshman Team concluding the 2023-24 season. However, Wednesday's mention marks the first time Hernandez has received a weekly mention from the SoCon.

The last time a Spartan was named SoCon Golfer of the Week was on March 13, 2024, when recent graduate, Noah Connor earned the award.
