Davis Promoted to Take Over Softball Offense

Ally Davis worked with the women's softball team while also coaching at West Rowan Middle School, supporting the catchers and assisting with player development. Coach Janelle Breneman describes elevating her to a full-time coach at UNCG as a "full circle moment." The post Davis Promoted to Take Over Softball Offense appeared first on UNC Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball Head Coach Janelle Breneman has announced that Ally Davis has been elevated to a full-time coach, released on Tuesday.

In 2023-24, Davis was with the Spartans in a limited role, as she was a teacher at West Rowan Middle School. Davis primarily worked with the catchers and assisted with player development, as well as being instrumental in many other elements of the program.

Davis brings a wealth of knowledge to the Blue & Gold as she was a head coach at the high school and middle school level, a student volunteer coach at the college level, a team and individual instructor, and is a former four-year Division I softball student-athlete.

"I have had the privilege to know Ally as both a player and a coach," stated Breneman, "and her passion and competitiveness makes her a tremendous fit for our softball program. As a talented offensive catcher, who also played other positions, Ally reads the game extremely well. Her coaching resume has strengthened her ability to analyze and translate different and new softball skill sets. I am thrilled to have her detailed and positive approach oversee our offense.

"It is a full circle moment for me, I had the pleasure of recruiting this young lady and her wonderful family to UNC and now I get to collaborate with her as a Spartan, which is special. Ally is a positive role model, and I am happy to welcome her and her beautiful family, including Dustin, Lilly, and Nolan to our Spartan family!"

During the 2023 season, Davis was the softball head coach at West Rowan Middle School where the team went 17-1 overall winning the division and tournament championships.

Prior to that coaching stint, she was the head softball coach at Mooresville High School from 2014-18 where she guided the team to back-to-back conference and tournament championships in 2017 and 2018. During her time with Mooresville, she led the team to a 73-25 record.

Davis was a student volunteer coach at North Carolina during the 2012-13 season and from 2009 to present she is a team and individual softball instructor.

Davis was a standout student-athlete at North Carolina from 2009-12. She started in 188 games, appearing in 203 with a .303 (151-for-498) batting average. She totaled 26 doubles and 25 home runs with 104 RBI during her time as a Tar Heel. Davis was selected to the 2010 & 2012 All-ACC Conference second teams, 2010 & 2012 All-ACC Tournament teams, and 2012 NFCA All-Southeast Region first team.

Davis graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise and Sport Science from North Carolina. She also has a teaching certificate from Charlotte in special education.
