Sw!ng Out is Bringing Their Groove to UNCG

New York Times’s Critic’s Pick SW!NG OUT, led by acclaimed choreographer Caleb Teicher, will deliver toe-tapping tunes to UNCG. This special celebration of swing dance, with live music by the Eyal Vilner Big Band, is part of the University Concert and Lecture Series. The UNCG Concert and Lecture Series continues on October 18th with a performance by SW!NG OUT, a night of Lindy Hop and social dance accompanied by a live Big Band in the UNCG Auditorium.

A New York Times’s Critic’s Pick, SW!NG OUT celebrates the unbridled joy of Lindy Hop and the excitement of the artists’ distinct improvisational styles—generating a different show each night with a blend of prearrangement and improvisation in both the music and the dance.

Even though Lindy Hop and vernacular jazz have been used in productions before, this is the first touring, evening-length program celebrating what these dances have become.

According to The Brain Trust, which is what the dancers and choreographers who created SW!NG OUT call themselves, “Lindy Hop tackles the issues of society-at-large, but in an arena of exaggerated humanity. Touch, trust, gender, history, intimacy, and partnership get ground together there, in the crucible of jazz, and they are reified as art. Our mission with Swing Out is to search for perspective on these complexities, while embracing the joy of jazz dance and music.”

Music by the Eyal Vilner Big Band complements the social dance experience with irresistible rhythms that will make you want to dance along—and you’ll be able to do just that. The performance will conclude with the audience being invited to join in for an on-stage jam session with the company.
