Adverse Weather Update
Monday, February 2, 2026
Dear UNCG Community,
Based on the forecasted conditions, the University will remain in Condition 2 from Tuesday, February 3, from 10 a.m. through Saturday, February 7, at 10 a.m. During this time all classes will be held remotely. Please see SpartanSafe.uncg.edu for additional information including a description of UNCG’s Condition 2 procedures.
The campus will decide whether to extend or modify the Condition 2 status and send out communications by Friday, February 6, by 1 p.m., or earlier, if possible.
Shifting conditions can cause uncertainty, and we appreciate your patience as we respond to evolving circumstances. This decision prioritizes the safety of our campus community while continuing to meet our teaching obligations to our students.
While remaining in Condition 2 with remote instruction for the entire week is unusual, this decision reflects the totality of current conditions. Ongoing concerns related to road safety in the surrounding region, which has not experienced this level of winter weather disruption since 2002, combined with the potential for another round of winter precipitation on Thursday (2/5), as well as the need to provide consistency and predictability for students, faculty, and staff, led to the determination that extending remote instruction was the most responsible course. This approach prioritizes the safety of our campus community while we continue meeting our teaching obligations with minimal disruption.
The campus will decide whether to extend or modify the Condition 1 status and send out communications by Friday, January 30, at 6 p.m. if not earlier.

Under Condition 2: Suspended Operations:
Students/Faculty:
- All instruction will be remote through 10 a.m. Saturday, February 7. Instructors, please see the UTLC Remote Teaching and Learning resources (utlc.uncg.edu) for just-in-time tips, tools, and examples to support a smooth transition to virtual instruction.
- All updated hours for services on campus can be found at SpartanSafe.uncg.edu
- Residence halls will remain open, and dining operations will continue, with services modified as necessary in response to weather conditions. The University is closely monitoring the forecast and preparing to support students throughout the weekend. Residential students are encouraged to stay informed through official University communications and to take reasonable personal precautions. Our priority is ensuring that students who remain on campus are safe, supported, and have access to essential services. If it is safe to do so, and additional services can be made available, we will keep students informed.
- Individuals currently on campus are encouraged to use primary entrances and exits, as these areas are monitored and maintained for safer access. Please proceed carefully through parking lots and surrounding walkways, as slick or icy spots may be present. Taking a few extra moments to move cautiously will help reduce the risk of slips, falls, and other weather‑related incidents.
- Staff will receive a follow-up email with additional details and instructions.
- Buildings will be locked, and parking areas may be closed.
- Mandatory Staff report per regular schedule.
- When a non-exempt mandatory employee is required to report to or remain at the work site during Condition 2, they shall receive hour-for-hour compensatory time.
- Non-mandatory Staff do not report to campus.
- Staff who work remotely are expected to continue to work, if possible.
- Staff who work hybrid or on campus may work remotely, if possible, with supervisory approval.
- If needed, Non-mandatory Staff should use annual leave/compensatory time/bonus leave or leave without pay.
- Non-mandatory Staff may make up their time within 90 days with supervisor approval.
- Details on time management and leave policies are available hrs.uncg.edu.
- All updated hours for services on campus can be found at SpartanSafe.uncg.edu.
