Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Four with Road Victory Over South Carolina State
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season after defeating the Bulldogs of South Carolina State, 53-35, in Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on Sunday afternoon.
Jayde Gamble and Jaila Lee led the game in scoring with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A layup from Taniya McGowan put the Bulldogs on the board first in Sunday's contest at 9:40. However, that would be the home team's only lead of the game. Tasia Johnson responded with a three-pointer at 7:30, propelling the Spartans to a 10-0 run for the 10-2 advantage.
The Spartans capitalized off a 72.7 field goal percentage in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs, 17-6. UNCG posted 10 unanswered points concluding with back-to-back layups from Nya Smith to close out the first half on top, 29-11.
The Bulldogs found their stride coming out of the locker room, besting the Spartans 11-6 in the third quarter. However, the Spartans continued to hold the 35-22 lead heading to the break.
The fourth stanza was the most competitive scoring wise, but UNCG held the five-point advantage, 18-13. Sunday's contest was ended with Lee notching three-consecutive-layups for the Spartans to claim the 53-35 victory.
