Women’s Golf Heads to Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team makes its way to Greenville, North Carolina, to compete in the Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina University (ECU), at Greenville Country Club.

The Spartans are coming off a third-place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. Freshman Sophie Lauture led UNCG in her first time competing in a tournament at the college level, tying for third after shooting a five-under-par (208).
 
The Pirate Collegiate Classic will mark freshman Lulu Leetham's first time competing as a Spartan. Leetham and sophomore Kasey McIlvaine will each compete individually in the tournament.

THE FORMAT
The two-day, 16-team and 54-hole tournament gets underway on Monday morning at 7:36 a.m. The first two rounds will be played on Monday before the tournament finishes with the final 18 holes played on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG

  • The Spartans finished third at their second tournament of the season, competing in a three-day, 18-team and 54-hole event with the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
  • UNCG finished eight-over-par (860) as a team after carding rounds of 297-271-292.
  • The team set a single-round record for the course and the UNCG program as a whole on Sept. 9. UNCG shot 13-under-par (271) in the second round, breaking the previous course record of 277 set by Campbell in 2018. Additionally, it set a school record for the Spartans with the previous single-round record for the team (281) coming last fall at the Elon Women's Invitational.
  • UNCG finished the tournament third in terms of total birdies (39) and fifth for pars (173).
  • Competing in her first collegiate tournament, Lauture tied for third at five-under-par (208). She logged her best round on Sept. 9, shooting a six-under-par (65). She finished tied for sixth with 39 pars and tied for ninth with 10 birdies.
  • Sophomore Elle Burnette shot an even par (71) on Sept. 10 to finish at one-under-par (212) and tied for 11th. She posted rounds of 74-67-72 from Sept 8-10.
  • Senior Ava Romfo tied for 26th after finishing the tournament at six-over-par (219). She shot a 77 in the first round, 70 in the second and 72 to close it out on Sept. 10.
  • Senior Grace Holcomb and McIlvaine both finished in a tie for 45th at 12-over-par (225). Holcomb posted rounds of 75-73-77 while McIlvaine put up 78-69-78 in the three-day tournament.
