GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team, who has won the last 10 of 11 games, will travel across town to face Greensboro rival North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

The Spartans are 11-3 overall this season so far, while the Aggies are 2-8 overall.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

• UNCG went 3-1 in its second home tournament at the UNCG Invitational.
• The Spartans defeated Iona, 5-3, Tennessee Tech, 9-6, and Towson, 5-0, before falling to George Washington, 2-1.
• The 5-0 shutout over Towson was the Spartans' second of the season.
• Jorde Chartrand struck out a season-best nine batters in the combined shutout tossing 7.0 innings.
• Grace Loftin hit a two-run walk-off home run to defeat the Gaels on Friday, 5-3.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS

• Loftin is leading the Spartans with 21 hits and a .429 batting average.
• She is nationally ranked 28th in total bases and 47th in hits.
• Rylie Williams and Meredith Harwood are pacing the Spartans with six home runs each.
• Harwood also leads the Spartans with 18 RBI.
• Salem Ward leads the Spartan pitching staff with 46 strikeouts, a 1.82 ERA and a 7-1 record. 
• Ward is fifth nationally in wins, 12th in innings pitched and 22nd in strikeouts. 
• Ward earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17 after going 4-0 in the Spiro Invitational.
• UNCG is ranked in the top 25 nationally in home runs per game (3^rd/2.00), home runs (5^th/28), slugging percentage (7^th/.658), RBI per game (8^th/7.71), scoring (13^th/8.29), walks (14^th/65), total runs (15^th/116), RBI (14^th/108), triples (16^th/6), batting average (17^th/.359), hits (18^th/143) and triples per game (20^th/0.43).
• UNCG was chosen to finish second in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Spartans received one first-place vote.  
• The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 33-26 overall and 13-8 in the SoCon.
• It was the fifth-straight season with 30 or more wins.
• It was also the ninth year with 30 or more wins under the direction of Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who is in her 13^th year with the Blue & Gold.
• The Spartans saw another successful statistical year, leading the SoCon in home runs per game (1.37), home runs (81), slugging percentage (0.490), triples per game (0.22) and walks (240).
• UNCG was also ranked nationally in the top 30 in four categories: sixth in walks, 11^th in home runs, 14^th in home runs per game and 30^th in slugging percentage.
• Loftin was named to the SoCon Preseason First Team, while Betsy Eatmon and Jorde Chartrand were voted to the Preseason Second Team.
• The Spartans reached the SoCon Championship game for the sixth-straight year in 2024, excluding the COVID 2020 shortened season, falling to Chattanooga in the double elimination game.
• UNCG added four freshmen and two transfers.
• The Spartans have four of their pitchers returning this season, including Chartrand.

RUNDOWN ON NC A&T

• A&T went 12-36 overall in the 2024 season and 6-21 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
• NC A&T was voted to finish 10^th in the CAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Aggies are 2-8 overall so far this season with a 9-8 eight-inning win over Claflin University and a 14-6 six-inning win.
• Shandi Brown is leading the Aggies with a .310 batting average, nine runs scored and successfully stolen 7-of-8 bases.
• Jaden James is pacing the team with four doubles.
• Katriel Williams is leading with 11 RBI.
• In the circle, Joey Barkhimer leads the pitching staff with 22.1 innings tossed and 22 strikeouts.
• Barkhimer was named to the 2024 All-CAA Second Team.
• Barkhimer and Aaliyah Williams each have a win this season in the circle.
• Head Coach Jose Gonzalez Jr. is in his second year with the Aggies.

The Spartans will split time in Elon, North Carolina, at Hunt Softball Park with two games on Saturday, March 1, playing Elon at 1:30 p.m. and then Sacred Heart at 4:00 p.m.  

UNCG will then host Sacred Heart (1:30 p.m.) and Elon (4:00 p.m.) on Sunday, March 2 at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Elon and Sacred Heart will play each other at 11:00 a.m.
