Men’s Cross Country Finishes 22nd at NCAA Southeast Regionals
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's cross country team finished in 22nd place out of 33 teams at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Southeast Regional Championships on Friday at Winthrop Farm, hosted by Visit York County.
Virginia won the team race with 79 total points, while North Carolina followed with 85 points and Eastern Kentucky rounded out the top three teams with 105 points.
Among The Southern Conference (SoCon) teams, Furman led the charge with a sixth-place finish (141 points), UNCG was next in 22nd place (697 points), Western Carolina took home 23rd place (701 points) and VMI placed 26th (793 points).
In his first NCAA Regional appearance, senior Colin Keck led the charge and finished in 111th place out of 240 competitors. He clocked in a time of 32:34.2 in the 10-kilometer race.
Junior Evan Pena placed 136th overall with his time of 32:59.9. Classmate Luke Ward followed and finished in 143rd place, clocking in a time of 33:05.9. This was Pena's second and Ward's third showing at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Freshman Logan Ruffner placed 163rd overall, finishing the race in 33:36.4, while sophomore Tyler Niloff ran the course in 33:55.8, good for 172nd. Junior Andrew Hamilton rounded out the Spartan competitors taking home 199th overall and clocking in a time of 34:52.7. All three competed in their first NCAA Regional Championship.
