Men’s Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15 in Rock Hill, South Carolina at Winthrop Farm.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at Winthrop Farm.
 
Visit York County will be the host, but Winthrop's course will be used for the Championships. The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the men's 10-kilometer race will follow at 11:30 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT:

  • The Spartans' placed third overall at The 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships.
  • Third place is the best mark since the 2012* season when UNCG was crowned champion. This is the fifth* time in program history that UNCG has finished third or better.
  • Senior Colin Keck led the charge for the Blue & Gold, finishing 12th out of 80 competitors, for the best SoCon Championship finish in his career. He clocked in a time of 25:10.5 in the eight-kilometer race and earned his first-career All-Conference second team award.
  • Juniors Andrew Hamilton and Luke Ward were the next Spartans across the finish line, placing 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
  • The Spartans had another duo who finished back-to-back, including freshman Logan Ruffner and sophomore Tyler Niloff, taking 29th and 30th place, respectively. Ruffner clocked in a time of 26:04.9 and Niloff finished the race in 26:06.9.
  • Ruffner earned a spot on the All-Freshman team and is the first Spartan to earn the honor since 2018 when UNCG had two placed on the team.
  • Junior Evan Pena placed 37th overall with a time of 26:30.6.

NOTE: The 2011 SoCon Championship was later vacated.
 
HISTORY AT REGIONALS

  • Ward was the only Spartan on the men's side to compete at the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.
  • In his second appearance at an NCAA Regional, he placed 127th overall with a time of 31:51.5, besting his time from his freshman year.
  • During the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, the men placed 19th which was the best mark since 2013 when the team posted an 11th-place mark.
  • In 2021, the squad placed 20th out of 30 teams.

 
UP NEXT
The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held November 23 in Madison, Wisconsin, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
