Hernandez Completes 2024 USGA U.S. Amateur

CHASKA, Minn. – Sophomore standout, Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team closed out his time at the 2024 USGA U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, in the second round on Tuesday.

CHASKA, Minn. – Sophomore standout, Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team closed out his time at the 2024 USGA U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, in the second round on Tuesday.
 
Hernandez posted a two-over-par (72) in the second round after carding four total birdies on the day at Chaska Town Course. He finished the tournament with a seven-over-par (149) after notching a five-over-par (77) in the opening round on Monday at Hazeltine. 
 
The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native currently stands in a tie for 193th place with competition in the second round still to be completed.
 
The current field of the U.S. Amateur will be trimmed to 64 for match play, which runs Wednesday through Sunday's 36-hole championship match.
 
Hernandez claimed first place at the 2024 Golf Puerto Rico Island Amateur Championships at Grand Reserve Golf Club on June 2, 2024 to receive an exemption into the 2024 USGA U.S. Amateur. 
 
Hernandez and the rest of the UNCG men's golf team is set to begin the 2024-25 season by hosting the Bryan National Collegiate from Sept. 8-10 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
