Men’s Tennis Rolls to 5-2 Victory Over Wofford
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over the Wofford Terriers in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Monday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
Wofford got on the board first by earning the doubles point. After Jack Deveney and Robbie Young defeated John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk, 6-3, Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz teamed up to take down Wofford's Daniel Clivio and Jack Burdell, 7-5. However, the Terriers earned the doubles point with Ian Rasheed and Hugo Rask taking down UNCG's William Elmers and Luke Thomson, 7-6 (2), in the third doubles match.
The Spartans won five straight singles matches to win the dual, 5-2. Black got it started with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Rasheed. Elmers then defeated Rask, 7-6 (2), 6-2, to give UNCG its first lead of the dual, 2-1. Moskowitz won over Burdell, 6-2, 7-6 (5), to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead. The Spartans won the dual and extended their lead to 5-1 with Thomson winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Clivio before Khrystyuk earned a 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over Young. Wofford's Deveney won the final singles match of the afternoon, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, over Gabelic. However, UNCG prevailed by a final score of 5-2.
