Women’s Golf Places Third at Golfweek Fall Challenge, Lauture Finishes Tied for Third
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished third in the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Tuesday.
UNCG freshman Sophie Lauture concluded her first tournament competing at the collegiate level in a tie for third. She opened the tournament at even par (71) on Sunday before shooting a six-under par (65) on Monday and one-over-par (72) on Tuesday to finish five-under-par (208).
The team set a single-round record for the course and the UNCG program as a whole on Monday. UNCG shot 13-under-par (271) in the second round, breaking the previous course record of 277 set by Campbell in 2018. Additionally, it set a school record for the Spartans with the previous single-round record for the team (281) coming last fall at the Elon Women's Invitational.
TEAM
- UNCG jumped from tied for ninth on Sunday, when they were 13-over-par (297), to alone at third on Monday following a historic 13-under-par (271) team effort.
- The Spartans held third place on Tuesday with an eight-over-par (292) showing.
- Finishing eight-over-par in the tournament, the Spartans finished five strokes behind UNC Wilmington (855) and 10 behind tournament-winner Campbell (850).
- UNCG finished the tournament third in terms of total birdies (39) and fifth for pars (173).
INDIVIDUAL
- Competing in her first collegiate tournament, Lauture tied for third at five-under-par (208). She logged her best round on Monday, shooting a six-under-par (65). She finished tied for sixth with 39 pars and tied for ninth with 10 birdies.
- Sophomore Elle Burnette shot an even par (71) on Tuesday to finish at one-under-par (212) and tied for 11th. She posted rounds of 74-67-72 from Sunday to Tuesday.
- Senior Ava Romfo tied for 26th after finishing the tournament at six-over-par (219). She shot a 77 on Sunday, 70 on Monday and 72 to close it out on Tuesday.
- Senior Grace Holcomb and sophomore Kasey McIlvaine both finished in a tie for 45th at 12-over-par (225). Holcomb posted rounds of 75-73-77 while McIlvaine put up 78-69-78 in the three-day tournament.
