Women’s Soccer and High Point Face Off On Thursday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team travels down the road to face High Point on Thursday, Sept. 5 at Vert Stadium for an in-state non-conference battle.
SERIES HISTORY
UNCG leads the series 8-4-2. The Spartans last won on Sept. 8, 2022, at High Point, 2-1. The Panthers took last years' contest, 1-0, on Aug. 23, 2023, in Greensboro.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG claimed its first win of the season behind a 1-0 shutout against Charlotte at home on Sunday. Emma Malone recorded a season high six saves and earned her fifth-career shutout. Ava Kiss tallied her first goal of the season and Mairead Gayer chipped in her first assist of the season and career.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Head Coach Stefani Workman is in her first year at the helm of the Spartans and eighth year overall with the Blue & Gold.
- The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
- The Spartans added six freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.
- Malone was most recently named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. This was her first career weekly award.
- This was the Spartans' first SoCon Player of the Week since Oct. 28, 2022, when Nadia Wilson earned the award and first SoCon Defensive Player of the Week since Sept. 27, 2022, when Abby Buchholz earned the recognition.
- Taylor Mentzer currently leads the Spartans with two goals scored this season.
- Kiss is second on the team with three points (1 G, 1 A).
- Ryen Ortiz has chipped in an assist this season.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
- The Panthers concluded the 2023 schedule 6-5-7 overall and 4-1-3 in the Big South.
- They were voted to finish third in the 2024 Big South Preseason Poll, while Tessa Carlin, Lindsey DeHaven, Meg Roden and Alex DePerno were voted to the Preseason All-Conference team.
- High Point is coming off a 2-0 loss to No. 21 Virginia Tech.
- The Panthers' lone win was a 4-0 victory over West Georgia.
- Sabba Haghgoo was most recently named Big South Freshman of the Week.
- DeHaven is leading the team with two goals for four points.
- Megan Garmey is pacing the Panthers with three assists.
- Five other Panthers have at least one point.
- Maddie Iro and Aubrey McKessy have split time in net. The two have combined for a 2.00 goals against average and 20 saves.

The Spartans return home on Sunday, Sept. 8 to host Elon at the UNCG Soccer Stadium with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
