Ward & Sosa Earn Titles, Track Competes at Mondo College Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams returned to competition and raced in the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
Five women and five men ran personal best times, while two took home titles.
On the men's side, Luke Ward won the 3000-meter run with a personal best time of 8:32.85. Evan Pena placed second out of the field of 52 with a personal best time of 8:35.72. Pierson Guerrant also ran a personal best time, 8:57.51, taking home sixth overall, while Judah Weesner rounded out the Spartan finishes in the 3000-meter run with his 22nd-place finish and a personal best time of 9:25.35.
Glodi Mvovi earned a top-five mark in the 800-meter run, clocking in a time of 2:10.18.
Tyler Niloff finished third out of 16 in the 1000-meter run, clocking in a time of 2:41.99.
In the mile, Andrew Hamilton paced the Spartans with a time of 4:26.10, which ranked third out of 56 competitors. Brodie Schneider and Logan Ruffner rounded out the Spartans that finished in the top 10. Schneider ran a time of 4:28.10, good for fifth, while Ruffner finished sixth with a time of 4:29.42.
The 4x400m relay finished sixth out of 14 teams with a time of 3:34.22.
On the women's side, Vicky Sosa finished the 3000-meter race with the top time of 10:44.93. Emma Berrier earned seventh out of the field of 32 with a personal best time of 10:56.40. Camille Carlson rounded out the Spartans that earned a top 10 mark in the 3000-meter run. Carlson finished ninth overall with a time of 11:11.63.
Tenley Douglass and Serena Henderson each placed seventh in their respective events. Douglass clocked in a time of 3:34.42 in the mile out of 42 competitors. Henderson ran a time of 2:29.27 in the 800-meter run in a field of 51 competitors.
Up next
The men and women will take some time off before traveling to Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete in the Liberty Open from Feb. 7-8 at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
