Men’s Soccer Scores Twice and Shuts Out Longwood
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over the Longwood Lancers on Tuesday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
In goal for the Spartans, redshirt sophomore Seth Wilson turned aside three shots for his third clean sheet of the season and the fifth of his college career.
Senior midfielder Jack Birch and sophomore forward Enzo Dovlo scored the first and second goals for UNCG, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans scored their first goal in the eighth minute of Tuesday's contest. On UNCG's second corner kick of the game, senior midfielder Yoshiya Okawa skipped the ball across the pitch to the top of the 18-yard box. Birch then fired it into the lower-left corner for his first goal of the season. Then in the 28th minute, Dovlo tapped in a shot near the right post for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Dovlo got on the board after receiving a pass from junior forward Konstantinos Georgallides at the left post.
UNCG dominated Longwood in the first half, outshooting the Lancers, 11-3, while also carrying a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half saw Georgallides flirt with scoring his first goal of the season when he hit the crossbar off a pass from Arnaud Tattevin in the 67th minute. The Lancers went on to hold the Spartans scoreless in the second half, but UNCG walked away with a 2-0 victory.
The Spartans continued to dominate in the second 45 minutes, outshooting the Lancers 10-4 for a 21-7 advantage in the match. Additionally, UNCG won the battle for corner kicks 8-1 after having five opposed to Longwood's one in the second half.
