SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball's freshman right-handed pitcher Jake Colucci has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native made two relief appearances last week, including one against then-No. 19 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and another against The Citadel on Sunday. All in all, Colucci tossed 7.1 shutout innings while allowing just three hits. He struck out three in 4.1 innings against the Chanticleers before punching out four in three innings of work facing The Citadel. He also allowed just three free passes.

"Being a freshman, this first year has already been full of awesome experiences," said Colucci. "The team's battled through a lot—especially in the bullpen—but when one guy goes down, someone else always steps up. It's been cool to be part of a group like this, and I really think our best days are still ahead of us."

The weekly award marks UNCG baseball's second of the season. Junior right-handed pitcher Jay Miller, who was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17, was the last student-athlete from the UNCG baseball team to earn the recognition.
