ABIS Announces Top Black Basketball Coaches to Watch List for 2024 BALDWIN, N.Y. –
Head Coach Trina Patterson and Associate Head Coach Cetera DeGraffenreid of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball coaching staff have been named to the Top Black Basketball Coaches to Watch list for 2024, the Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS).The ABIS, announced its "Black Coaches to Watchlist for Basketball" on March 15, 2024, showcasing the standout Black men and women head, associate, and assistant coaches to watch from the NCAA. This year's roster includes 29 head coaches and 49 promising associate and assistant coaches hailing from mid-level and major NCAA basketball programs.
The genesis of the Black Coaches Watchlist dates back to 2021, prompted by The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports' (TIDES) annual Racial & Gender Report Card (RGRC) for college sports.
Now in its third year, the ABIS Black Coaches Watchlist continues to serve as a crucial resource, distributed to athletic administrators and executive search firms, amplifying the contributions of Black coaches as the hiring cycle unfolds for collegiate and professional sports.
"I appreciate the recognition and acknowledgment to the watchlist by the distinguished ABIS panel group," said Patterson.
"It's an honor to be recognized amongst peers in the industry," stated DeGraffenreid. "There are distinguished coaches on the list that I respect and admire and I am grateful that they have paved the way. I would like to thank ABIS for this award and for their commitment to providing representation in the women's basketball community."
Patterson is currently in her eighth season at the helm of the UNCG women's basketball. She just completed her third season at UNCG with 20 or more wins. DeGraffenreid is in her sixth season with the Spartans and second as the Associate Head Coach.
