Women’s Tennis Concludes Season in SoCon Quarterfinals
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team concluded its 2023-24 season in a loss to No. 1 ETSU, 4-0 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
ETSU's Fernanda Carvajal and Daniela Rivera claimed the first match of the day over Arina Babkova and Raegan Mitchell, 6-1 on court one. Jana Rovira and Ralitsa Alexandrova sealed the doubles point for the Bucs after defeating Juliana Craft and Ella Olexa, 6-2 on court three.
The Bucs were able to continue their momentum into singles play by earning the first three matches for the 4-0 victory. First, Rivera started off singles action by earning the 6-0, 6-0 win over Craft on court three. Alessandra Caceres came in behind to give the Bucs their third point of the day in a 6-2, 6-1 match over Lauren Thomson on court five. Carvajal gave ETSU the match clinching point on court two over Alexandra Dodashev, 6-2, 6-0.
The Spartans were on track to securing a couple points before the matches were called unfinished. Olivia Gallagher was leading Rovira 6-4, 2-1 on court four, while Babkova was tied with Sofia Markova, 6-6 on court one.
