WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams opened the indoor season at the Winston-Salem College Kick-off on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
Twelve Spartans either had their college debut in an indoor track event or competed in an event for the first time in their collegiate careers today.
Junior Evan Pena and senior Colin Keck both earned top-10 finishes in the 3000-meter run. Pena clocked in a time of 8:36.01 for the second-best time in his collegiate career, placing eighth out of 48 competitors. Keck finished ninth overall with his personal best time of 8:41.95.
Sophomore Khalid Abdullahi placed 14th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:47.83. Freshman Pierson Guerrant ran his collegiate debut in the event with a time of 9:00.15, placing 20th overall. His time put him first in his heat.
Freshman Olivia Dawson made her collegiate debut in the 60-meter sprint and finished 15th out of 31 competitors clocking in a time of 8.34-seconds. Sophomore Kiarrah Williams ran the event in 8.55-seconds, which was the second-best time in her collegiate career.
