Spartan-Well Being is offering students free coaching in health, finance, and other areas of wellbeing they want to improve, providing flexible options to meet their needs and help them achieve their goals effectively. Walking into a new semester creates opportunities for students to start fresh. It’s a time where they can revisit old New Year’s resolutions or think about their current personal and academic goals.

Understanding that it can be overwhelming, students aren’t expected to do it alone at UNC Greensboro. Spartan Well-Being offers free coaching for all students, teaming up to carry out any goal they set for themselves.

To Learn is To Grow

Virginia Zell, Well-Being Specialist and National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach, says, “Spartan Well-Being focuses on supporting student’s overall health and wellness. We provide an array of services, including health-related workshops, tabling, outreach events, well-being and financial wellness coaching, mental health trainings, and student support groups. It’s also a beautiful and calming space for students to hang out and grab a snack.”

Students in coaching will develop a collaborative partnership with either a professional-certified coach or a student peer guide, meeting one-on-one and utilizing evidence-based practices to discuss areas of focus. The coaches and guides first assess the overall well-being of a student. Then they co-create solutions and strategies that encourage the student’s desired lifestyle.

Spartan Well-Being offers two types of coaching services:

• Well-Being Coaching

• Financial Wellness Coaching

Well-being coaching targets current health, well-being goals, and lifestyle changes. Types of support for students can include goal setting, anxiety/stress management, self-care, decision-making skills, building healthy relationships, and more.

Financial wellness coaching addresses education in relation to financial matters. Students should anticipate topics of budgeting, planning for financial emergencies, and exploring ways to increase their financial literacy. The options are vast.

Taking the Initiative

Students who feel a regularly scheduled meeting would not work best for them can choose to come by for an in-person session at Gove Student Health Services during drop-in hours Monday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or schedule a virtual session. Ultimately, well-being coaches or peer guides are there to serve as an accountability partner and resource for students.

Stronger Together

Conversations with coaches or peer guides are private and judgement free, designed to empower and motivate students after each session. With incoming workloads and busy schedules, it helps to have someone to run an idea by. To get started, click here and fill out the self-referral form.
