Adverse Weather Update
Wednesday, January 28, 2026

Dear UNCG Community,

Based on updated reports regarding road conditions in surrounding areas this morning, including reports of snow and ice not cleared to the extent anticipated, the University will move to Condition 1 (reduced operations) of the adverse weather policy, on Wednesday, January 28, from 3 p.m. until Saturday, January 31, at 7 a.m. Remote instruction will begin after 3 p.m. today . Please see the information below for additional information including a description of UNCG’s Condition 1 procedures.

Shifting conditions can cause uncertainty, and we appreciate your patience as we respond to evolving circumstances. This decision prioritizes the safety of our campus community while continuing to meet our teaching obligations to our students.

The campus will decide whether to extend or modify the Condition 1 status and send out communications by Friday, January 30, at 6 p.m. if not earlier.

Under Condition 1: Reduced Operations:

Students/Faculty:

  • Beginning with classes starting at 3 PM on Wednesday, January 28, through 7 AM on Saturday, January 31, all instruction will be remote. Faculty are encouraged to use virtual instructional approaches that are reasonable and appropriate for the situation. We recognize that transitioning to remote instruction on short notice is challenging. We sincerely appreciate our faculty for their flexibility, professionalism, and continued commitment to student learning.
  • Other University operations may be continuing virtually or with reduced schedules. Refer to Spartan Safe for updated hours.
Staff:

  • Mandatory staff should report per their regular schedule.
  • Non-mandatory staff who are working from campus should discuss options with their supervisor if they are unable to report to campus. Options include coming in late, working remotely, or taking leave.
  • Non-mandatory staff currently teleworking should maintain their normal work schedule.
  • If an employee is unable to work, compensatory time/annual leave/bonus leave or leave without pay should be used. With supervisory approval, staff may have 90 days to make up missed time.
  • Details on time management and leave policies are available here.
  • All updated hours for services on campus can be found at SpartanSafe.uncg.edu.
  • Planned events are permitted to continue under Condition 1; decisions are left to the discretion of the director, dean, or vice chancellor in charge of the event. Consideration should be given to the nature of the event, the audience, travel required of staff and audience, and safety concerns.
Individuals currently on campus are encouraged to use primary entrances and exits, as these areas are monitored and maintained for safer access. Please proceed carefully through parking lots and surrounding walkways, as some slick or icy spots may still be present. Taking a few extra moments to move cautiously will help reduce the risk of slips, falls, and other weather‑related incidents.

As with any adverse weather event, please make decisions about travel based on your personal circumstances and safety. Please make sure you continue to monitor your email, the Spartan Safe App, and the Spartan Safe Website for the latest information from UNCG.
