Baseball’s Season Ends in Close Battle Against Wofford
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team, the sixth seed for the 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Baseball Tournament, dropped a 4-2 decision to seventh-seeded Wofford in a single-elimination game on Wednesday evening at Fluor Field.
The Spartans' 2025 season ends at 21-33, which included a 9-12 mark in conference games throughout the regular season to finish sixth in the SoCon. With the win, Wofford improved to 32-25 and advanced into the double-elimination portion of the tournament. The Terriers will face No. 3 seed The Citadel on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Wofford opened the scoring on Wednesday night, pushing three runs across with four hits during the third inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Cade Collins got it started with a solo home run to right field. After Niko Brini and Ryan Wynn reached on singles and moved into scoring position on a groundout, Tanner Hardin drove them in with a base knock to right-center, making it 3-0 Terriers.
The Terriers struck for another run in the fifth when Brini homered to right, extending the lead to 4-0 Wofford.
UNCG got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Jeremy Wolf scored the Spartans' first run after reaching on a double before Brantley Truitt lined a triple high off the wall down the line in right. Jacob Dilley then scored Truitt from third with an infield single that was bounced over to first. After seven innings in Greenville, Wofford led UNCG by a 4-2 margin.
Riding the relief arm of Carter Rasmussen, who got the Terriers out of the jam in the seventh, Wofford hung on to win by the two-run margin, 4-2. The Spartans rallied in the ninth, getting two aboard with a pair of free passes to begin the inning. However, Rasmussen got the Terriers out of danger again with an infield fly and back-to-back strikeouts for his fourth save of the season.

- Truitt and Dilley each had two hits and one RBI.
- Truitt's RBI triple was his second triple of the season.
- Luke Holland led the Spartans with three hits.
- UNCG outhit Wofford, 12-7, while both sides drew two walks.
- Danny Thompson Jr. and Noah Chapman combined for 11 strikeouts.
- Chapman shutout the Terriers while pitching the final 3.2 innings in relief.
- Both teams finished the game with one error.
