January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM)! More than 1 in 5 women and approximately 1 in 10 men in the U.S. experience stalking in their lifetimes, and more than half of victims report they were first stalked before the age of 25. Most student-victims are stalked by someone they know, and most stalkers use both in-person tactics and technology to monitor, contact, threaten, intimidate, sabotage, and/or otherwise frighten their victims. In stalking cases, context is key! Stalkers often engage in behaviors that seem insignificant or flattering to people who aren’t involved but are terrifying in the context of the situation. Victims often have to explain to others why something scares, upsets, or worries them. Stalking frequently co-occurs with physical violence and sexual assault, but too often it goes unnamed and unaddressed. Join us for an interactive workshop on Stalking! Learn definitions and warning signs, hear survivor stories, discuss early identification, and explore how to support yourself or a friend who is experiencing stalking. Together, we can Know It, Name It, Stop It.  Help raise awareness about the dangers of stalking on your campus this January for NSAM – and all year long. MLK Day of Service is an annual university-wide event which takes place every January to give UNCG students an opportunity to connect to different parts of our community while honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service. Buffalo Creek spans much of the Greensboro Metropolitan area and primarily functions as a means for channeling storm water throughout the city.  Unfortunately, storm water brings unsightly and potentially contaminating debris into the creek.  Outdoor Adventures is proud to take on the task of “adopting” this stream and greatly appreciates you joining us to make a difference in our community as well as communities located downstream of Guilford County!

Become part of the Active Girls–Healthy Girls (AGHG) Counselor Team and make a meaningful impact on girls’ lives.  Join us for 8 free professional training sessions designed to help you become a confident, informed counselor to promote the health and wellbeing of adolescent girls. Develop confidence in leading, mentoring, and facilitating group activities while strengthening your leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. This training program will culminate in the experience of serving as a counselor at the Active Girls-Healthy Girls Spring Break Camp from March 31st to April 2nd.  You’ll also build professional relationships with CWHW staff and community partners, all while enjoying free food and receiving exclusive AGHG swag.

Spartan Connect Events | Counseling and Psychological Services - 2nd floor of Gove Student Health Services
Family relationships can negatively impact our self-esteem and mental health and often influence how we show up in new relationships. Counseling and Psychological Services is hosting a therapy group for students who experience dysfunctional family dynamics. This group will provide a space to support students as they navigate complex family dynamics which may including high conflict or violence in the family, emotionally unavailable caregivers, divorce or absence of a caregiver, or family members facing addiction or other mental health challenges. The group will focus on practical ways to cope with complicated family dynamics and offer a space to try out new approaches to relationships in a supportive environment. A pre-screen meeting with the co-leaders of the group is required before joining. Call Counseling and Psychological Services at 336-334-5874 to schedule a pre-screening appointment and to learn more about the group. Mondays 3:30-4:45pm. Start date is Monday February 2nd.
