Baseball Travels to Raleigh Tuesday to Face NC State
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will take on the NC State Wolfpack in a non-conference midweek test on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG won a series over VMI, two games to one, to open play in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The Spartans won 9-7 on Friday, 13-12 on Saturday and lost the finale 8-6 on Sunday at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium in Lexington, Virginia.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- The Spartans own an overall record of 12-15 with a 2-1 mark in the SoCon after winning their last series at VMI.
- UNCG faced four consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents, amounting to eight-straight games from Feb. 18-March 4. The Spartans went 3-5 during the stretch.
- The Spartans opened the eight straight games against ACC foes with an upset over then-No. 13 Wake Forest at home, 4-0, on Feb. 18.
- UNCG stands at 14th in the country with three shutouts this season, 20th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.35) and 20th in strikeout-to-walk-ratio (2.84).
- Junior right-hander Jay Miller leads the Spartans in total strikeouts with 46, which ranks 51st nationally.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Sam Murchison is second on the team with 41 punchouts while sophomore southpaw Noah Chapman is third on the Spartans with 39 strikeouts.
- Thompson Jr. ranks 35th in the nation with four saves this season.
- Murchison leads UNCG in wins with a 4-1 record, which, based on victories, stands 45th in NCAA Division I.
- The Spartans matched a season-high for runs (13) on Saturday at VMI in the 13-12 victory over the Keydets. UNCG previously plated 13 runs on March 2 vs. Pitt in a 13-11 win at home.
- Wolf leads the Spartans with a .371 (36-for-97) batting average and nine doubles this season. He also leads the team with 20 runs scored.
- Wight leads UNCG with six home runs and 17 RBI after hitting four homers last week. He is the only Spartan to play in all 27 games this season.
- Junior outfielder Luke Holland is second on the team with four home runs and 16 RBI.
- The Spartans were voted to finish first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Rob Ready was named one of two SoCon Preseason Pitchers of the Year by the league. The other was Michael Harpster of ETSU.
- In addition, a total of six Spartans were recognized on Preseason All-SoCon Teams. They were Ready (SP), Trey Truitt (DH), Holland (OF) and Grant Aycock (RP), who were named to the first team, while Hunter Shuey (SP) and Thompson Jr. (RP) rounded out the list on the second team.
- Chapman is also back after being named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2024.
- The Spartans are coming off a historic season where they posted an overall record of 33-21, marking their 19th 30-win campaign in the program's 34-season history.
- UNCG captured its third Southern Conference (SoCon) Regular Season Championship behind a conference record of 15-6 in 2024.
- Entering the SoCon Tournament as the top seed for the first time since 2018, UNCG ended the 2024 campaign with losses to Wofford, 5-2, and ETSU, 10-7, at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina.
- UNCG led the SoCon a season ago in ERA (5.19), fewest runs allowed (297) and lowest opponent batting average (.267).
- The Spartans' baseball roster is made up of 38 student-athletes, including 23 returners, eight newcomers and seven transfers.
- Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his second year at the helm of the UNCG baseball program after leading the Spartans last season, who were projected to finish sixth in the conference, to a regular season championship.
- He was named the 2024 SoCon Coach of the Year and had an interim tag removed following the season on May 28.

- NC State is 18-10 overall and 5-4 in the ACC.
- The Wolfpack are coming off a two-games-to-one series loss at Duke over the weekend. After losing 5-1 on Friday, NC State won game two on Saturday, 14-6, before falling 16-6 in the finale on Sunday.
- NC State's pitching staff ranks ninth in the country by averaging 11.0 strikeouts per nine innings.
- Chris McHugh leads the Wolfpack in batting average at .333 (33-for-99). He also leads the team with 34 RBI and is tied with Alex Sosa for most home runs at five.
- Luke Nixon leads NC State in doubles (10), triples (2) and total bases (55).
- Matt Heavner leads the country with 11 sacrifice bunts this season.
- Dominic Fritton ranks 11th in the nation with 59 strikeouts so far.
- Fritton also owns NC State's lowest ERA at 2.16 with the most innings pitched (41.2).
- Right-handed pitcher Jacob Dudan was named to the D1Baseball Preseason All-American First Team and ranked the No. 1 reliever in the Top 100 Relief Pitchers List prior to the season.
- The 2024 campaign saw the Wolfpack finish 38-23 overall and 18-11 in the ACC before making their way to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, where they dropped their first two tests, 5-4, to Kentucky and Florida.
- With the ACC now having 16 baseball teams, NC State was voted to finish seventh in the conference's preseason poll.
- Head Coach Elliot Avent is in his 29th season at the helm of NC State and looking build off his third trip to Omaha. He owns a career record of 1,278-836-2 and recently became the fifth active Division I head coach with 1,000 wins at one school.
SERIES HISTORY VS. NC STATE
The Spartans are 10-34 all-time when facing NC State. The Wolfpack won 10-0 over UNCG in the previous meeting earlier this season on March 4 in Greensboro.
UNCG cruised to an 18-3 victory over the Wolfpack in the only meeting last season on March 12 in Raleigh. Trey Truitt led the Spartans with a 4-for-6 batting line with one RBI and three runs scored. Zachary Walsh was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs. Brandon Hudson earned the win after pitching an inning and a third in relief. Chapman and Thompson Jr. also tossed scoreless frames to secure the victory.
