Men’s Basketball Outlasts Furman On the Road, 58-50
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team extended its win streak to four behind a 58-50 victory over Furman on Saturday afternoon at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.
The Spartans have now won eight of the last 10 games heading into final four contests of the regular season. With their 11-3 SoCon record, UNCG is leading the conference. The Spartans have claimed the last six of seven meetings between the two teams including sweeping the Paladins the last two years in the regular season.
Two Spartans reached double figures in the game, as Kenyon Giles led all scorers with 19 points and Ronald Polite III had 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG opened the game with nine straight points. Furman scored its first basket with 15:00 minutes on the clock, 9-2. Ronald Polite III drained two free throws for a nine-point advantage, 11-2, before Furman fought back and tied the game at 15-15 after back-to-back three-pointers with 8:05 left in the half. Jalen Breath gave the Spartans the lead again with a jumper, but the Paladins saw their first lead with 6:47 on the clock from a three-pointer, 18-17. The Spartans went on an 11-6 run before heading to the locker room to hold on to a four-point gap, 28-24.
A 9-3 run out of the break which was capped by a three-pointer by Joryam Saizonou, put the Spartans up 10, 37-27, with 15:17 on the clock. The Paladins scored 10-straight points to tie the game at 37-37, but UNCG fought back with nine-straight points of its own for a 46-37 advantage with 7:21 remaining. Furman kept it tight and cut the deficit to four with 4:40 left. UNCG prevailed keeping its distance and holding on for the 58-50 victory over Furman.

- Donovan Atwell chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
- Breath added seven points and eight rebounds.
- Malik Henry and Breath each had three blocks.
- Polite III registered a game-high five assists, while Giles was second with four.
- The Spartans had the advantage in field goal percentage (39.3-26.8), three-point percentage (33.3-26.7) and free throw percentage (83.3-70.6).
- UNCG outmatched Furman in points in the paint (26-10), points off turnovers (11-9) and second-chance points (9-5).
