Nyepon Named Assistant Men’s Soccer and Goalkeeper Coach

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) head men's soccer coach Chris Rich announced the hiring of Manbi Nyepon as an assistant men's soccer and goalkeeper coach on Friday.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) head men's soccer coach Chris Rich announced the hiring of Manbi Nyepon as an assistant and goalkeeper coach on Friday.

"We are thrilled to welcome Manbi to the UNCG soccer family," Coach Rich said. "Just like we look to recruit the best local players, we have done the same with the addition of Manbi. He has deep Greensboro roots and is well-connected with North Carolina.

"We fully expect him to elevate our goalkeeper position. We believe this position is one of our strengths, and look forward to Manbi developing it even further."

Nyepon comes to UNCG from Greensboro College, where he has served as the head coach for men's soccer since August of 2021.

In four seasons at the helm for the Pride, where he also played the final two seasons of his collegiate career as the starting goalkeeper from 2012-13, Nyepon coached five all-conference honorees. The 2021 season was the best season for the program under Nyepon, as the team went 8-8-2 and 4-2-1 in USA South Conference play.

Nyepon returned to Greensboro College to coach after serving as the assistant at George Washington University, where he also worked with the goalkeepers. Over his four years, the Revolutionaries' keepers gave up an average of 1.31 goals per game and totaled 20 shutouts.

Prior to going to George Washington, Nyepon spent a season at American University, where the Eagles topped the Patriot League regular season standings before falling in penalty kicks during the league's tournament final. His keepers combined to cede just 1.20 goals per game with a total of six shutouts.

As a player in the net at Greensboro College, Nyepon compiled 157 saves and stands at seventh all-time in program history. He made the NSCAA All-Region second team twice. As a senior, he helped the Pride to a conference title and berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. He recorded nine shutouts over his two seasons with the Pride. Greensboro College advanced to the USA South Athletic Conference final both years Nyepon was on the roster.

Nyepon, a native of Liberia on the Coast of West Africa, graduated from Greensboro's Page High School before starting his college career at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.
