No. 11 UNCG Men’s Soccer Falls to South Carolina, 2-1
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team fell to South Carolina ,2-1, at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
How it Happened:
Both defenses were solid early as the first shot of the game was not taken until the 14th minute of action. However, after the initial shot by South Carolina, the UNCG offense took the initiative and began to pressure the South Carolina defense. This resulted in a penalty awarded to the Spartans in the Gamecocks' penalty area, which Arnaud Tattevin coolly took to put UNCG up 1-0 early. The Spartans' attack continued after the goal, outshooting South Carolina, 7-2 in the first half, but tremendous goalkeeping kept the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, both defenses continued to show their strength as neither team could build momentum in the attacking zone. In the 63rd minute, a long pass from the South Carolina backline found a sprinting attacker that broke away and slotted a shot past goalkeeper Seth Wilson to equalize the score at 1-1. South Carolina's offense continued to harass the UNCG defense until the 84th minute. On the counterattack, the Gamecocks scored before the Spartan defense was set, giving the Gamecocks the 2-1 lead, which they would not relinquish.
