Fritz Earns SoCon Defensive Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Senior defender Kimito Fritz of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Denfensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. This is the Spartans third defensive player of the week of winner and sixth total this season. He scored one goal while playing two complete games against No. 8 ranked Virginia and Wofford in the eighth week of the 2025 season.
The Toyko, Japan native, has started 13 out of the 14 games for UNCG. Fritz has been integral to the Spartan defense logging 1,063 minutes this season. This past week against No. 8 Virginia, he started against and played the entirety of the match. Fritz was a key piece that held the backline together when the Spartans went down a man in the 82nd minute due to a red card to draw the Cavaliers,1-1, last Tuesday.
Against Wofford on Saturday, he again turned in another 90-minute complete game while scoring his first goal for the Spartans on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. UNCG went on to finish the match with a 3-0 win over the Terriers and its fourth clean sheet of the season.
"I'm really happy." said Fritz, " It's not about myself though, it's about the team and getting wins. I am happy about the award, but the team and I are focused on wins."
