Hernandez Secures Second Offensive Player of the Week Award
SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Steven Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after scoring two goals against Liberty, the league announced Tuesday.
The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native earned his second SoCon offensive award of the season against Liberty this past Friday. Hernandez put UNCG on the board in the 15th minute, finishing a long pass into the box from Sami Lachekar for a 1-0 lead. In the 71st minute, with the score being 2-1, the redshirt junior snuck his way into the box and leveled a shot past the keeper off the far post to give the Spartans the much-needed insurance goal.
Hernandez has scored four goals in the past three games and secured his second-ever brace in his college career against Liberty. Hernandez is tied for second on the team in goals with four and third on the team in total points at eight.
"I'm honored to be recognized again as Offensive Player of the Week," said Hernandez, "I couldn't do it without my teammates and coaches pushing me every day and putting me in positions to succeed."
