GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 19 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team secured a much-needed Southern Conference (SoCon) win against Wofford in Greensboro, North Carolina, at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Saturday during the homecoming night. The 1989 soccer team was inducted into the UNCG Hall of Fame during halftime of the match.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

The match was all UNCG from the jump, dominating the ball and probing the Wofford defense for weaknesses. The Spartans took five shots in the first half combined with two corner kicks to keep the Terriers on the backfoot. In the 29th minute, Enzo Dovlo received a pass from Steven Hernandez who beat the keeper one-on-one to open the score at 1-0. With his eighth goal of the season, Dovlo secures the lead in the SoCon in total points and his new career-best in goals in a season. The match turned into a defensive stalemate to end the first half.

The second half saw a renewed offensive push from the Spartans as they took four shots in the first 15 minutes of the half. In the 64th minute, a Terrier red card gave UNCG a penalty kick that Kimito Fritz converted to put the score at 2-0. Fritz, who has played in every match this season, scored his first Spartan goal in his career. UNCG continued to dominate possession as they chewed down the remainder of the clock.   Sigurd Eikenes Sæveraas found himself in the box behind the Wofford defense in the 89th minute. The freshman buried a shot past the goalkeeper to give UNCG the final score of 3-0.

"It was a must three points," said Head coach Chris Rich "It was at home and during homecoming and it was important to put on a good show for the alumni that put their blood and sweat into this program."
