RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 18 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team took a 1-1 draw against No. 3 North Carolina State (NC State) at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

NC State came out strong to start the match, testing the Spartan defense led by Seth Wilson early and often. The Wolfpack accumulated 10 shots in the first half with four saves by the Spartan goalkeeper. UNCG's most dangerous opportunity came in the 25th minute where a Steven Hernandez free kick was whipped into the feet of Sami Lachekar who put the ball on goal but was saved by the keeper to keep it 0-0. The Spartans' defense was again put to the test by NC State with 44:15 on the clock with a free kick just outside the penalty area. However, Lachekar and the UNCG wall blocked the shot and cleared the ball out of the danger area to keep the score tied going into half time.

The beginning of the second half saw the Spartan offense come to life holding onto possession and advancing the ball into the attacking zone. In the 55th minute, Enzo Dovlo received the ball and dashed towards the center of the pitch. Then, well outside the penalty area, blasted a shot that went upper 90 for a beautiful goal to put the Blue & Gold up 1-0. After the goal, the UNCG defense hunkered down and took on the NC State barrage. The Spartans bent but never broke as the Wolfpack fired away shot after shot that was either blocked by the UNCG defense or saved by Seth Wilson. The Spartan goalkeeper, against the fifth best scoring defense in the country, had a career high in saves with 11. However, in the 84th minute, a controversial handball was called on UNCG in the penalty which led for a penalty kick for the Wolfpack. Wilson, who was brillant all night, could not stop the shot at the penalty spot which tied the match up one apeice. NC State looked for the winning goal late and was awarded a free kick in a dangerous area with 89:58 on the clock but Wilson made the save to end the match at 1-1.
