Mercer Defeats Men’s Tennis in Macon
MACON, Ga. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell 7-0 while taking on the Mercer Bears in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Sunday at LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Mercer earned the first point by winning two out of three in doubles. It started with Marceau Fouilhoux and Nemanja Stefanovic winning 6-2 over William Elmers and Luke Thomson. UNCG's Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz then defeated Howell Burns and Esteban Gasser, 6-4, to force the need for a third doubles match. Mercer took a 1-0 lead in the dual via the doubles point once Prince Gandonou and Isak Padio won 6-4 over John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk.
The Bears cruised to a 7-0 victory with six straight singles wins. It started with Padio defeating Gabelic, 6-2, 6-0, on court two. Stefanovic then knocked off Khrystyuk, 6-1, 7-5, before Fouilhoux won 6-1, 6-4 over Moskowitz to make it 4-0. Burns then won in three sets over Elmers, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10), to make it 5-0. The match concluded in a 7-0 final for Mercer after Gandonou snuck past Thomson, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10), and Hagelauer took down Black, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
