Baseball Shuts Out North Carolina A&T to Sweep Series
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team shut out the North Carolina A&T Aggies, 7-0, to complete a three-game series sweep on Monday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
After a scoreless first frame, UNCG got on the board first with Jacob Budzik blooping a double just inside the right-field foul line and later scoring on a single to left by Case Kermode.
The Spartans proceeded to score two more runs in each of the next three innings before cruising to the 7-0 victory. It started in the third inning with Budzik singling up the middle to score Parker Wight and Luke Holland, making it 3-0.
The fourth inning saw Trey Truitt score after the Aggies' shortstop muff a fielder's choice attempt flipped over to second by the second baseman. Jacob Dilley then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to make it 5-0 Spartans.
In the fifth inning, a throwing error by the Aggies' third baseman allowed Trey Truitt to score before his brother, Brantley Truitt, drew a bases-loaded walk three at-bats later, which capped the scoring at 7-0.
The Spartans rode solid pitching the rest of the way to secure the 7-0 victory and their third shutout of the season. Grant Aycock got the win after he started and went five innings with just three hits allowed and three walks surrendered while striking out seven. In relief, Mayson Dear and Jake Colucci each pitched two scoreless innings to secure the win.
NOTES:
- Budzik led the team offensively with two hits and two RBI.
- Brantley Truitt led the team with four walks.
- The Spartans outhit the Aggies, 7-4, and were perfect defensively with no errors compared to North Carolina A&T's three in the contest.
- UNCG led in stolen bases, 2-1, and extra-base hits, 2-0.
