Men’s Basketball Edged By San Jose State, 69-64
HENDERSON, NEV. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team fell to San Jose State, 69-64, on Tuesday night at Lee's Family Forum during the 2024 Ball Dawgs Classic.
Ronald Polite III led the game with a season-high 19 points, while Kenyon Giles was second with 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
San Jose State made the first basket of the game, but UNCG tied the game at four at 17:10, thanks to a free throw from Polite III. The Blue & Gold took their first lead of the game with back-to-back baskets from Donovan Atwell and Demetrius Davis. The score toggled back and forth and San Jose State tied the game at 13 with 11:14 remaining in the half. This included an 11-point run to put San Jose State up six, 19-13. A 12-3 run by San Jose State gave it a 15-point lead, 31-16. The Blue & Gold concluded the game with a jumper from Polite III and a layup by Malik Henry closing the gap to 11, 31-20.
The two teams traded baskets to begin the second half before San Jose State climbed to a 15-point lead, first at 13:14 and then again with 9:01 on the clock. UNCG's Jalen Breath scored six-straight points to cut the deficit to nine, 53-44, but San Jose State was able to get back to a double-figure lead with 4:03 remaining, 59-49. The Blue & Gold closed the game with a 15-10 run, but San Jose State came away with the 69-64 victory.
