Men’s Tennis Set to Face Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team is set to compete against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG is off to an 0-1 start to the season after falling 4-3 on the road against North Carolina Central last Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
- The Spartans were led by freshman William Elmers and junior John Gabelic, who picked up a win in doubles together before prevailing in their respective singles matches.
- Devon Moskowitz was the only other Spartan to earn a singles victory in last Saturday's showing.
- Andrew Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
- Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more back in Greensboro during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
- The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
- Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Tymofiy Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
- Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
- The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen who are in their first year at UNCG.
- Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.
SCOUTING THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
- Gardner-Webb is off to a 2-1 start to its spring season and recently defeated Chattanooga, 4-3, on Sunday in Tennessee.
- Prior to that, the Runnin' Bulldogs won 6-1 over North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Their one loss came in DeLand, Florida, 4-3, while facing Stetson.
- Graduate Eduardo Dias and freshman Alexandre Bergeron recently swept the Big South's men's tennis weekly honors last Wednesday.
- Dias, the 2024 Big South Preseason Player of the Year, was named the conference player of the week after kicking off his campaign with a No. 1 singles win over Stetson's Eder Blanco (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).
- Bergeron, a newcomer to the Runnin' Bulldogs, earned a point for Gardner-Webb in No. 4 singles at Stetson after taking down Lucas Olivier in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) all while being tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week.
- Gardner-Webb was voted to finish first in the Big South's 2025 Preseason Poll, earning all five first-place votes for a total of 25 points.
- Dias was named the 2025 Big South Preseason Player of the Year for a second consecutive year.
- The 2024 campaign saw the Runnin' Bulldogs cruise to a 20-4 overall record as well as a 4-0 mark in conference action before appearing in the Big South Tournament Championship.
- Head Coach Mike Griffith is in his 23rd season at Gardner-Webb. He is a three-time Big South Coach of the Year (2019, 2023 & 2024).
UNCG vs. GARDNER-WEBB SERIES HISTORY
Gardner-Webb has prevailed in four of the last five meetings against UNCG since the 2018-19 season. Prior to that, the Spartans had the upper hand, winning in seven straight meetings dating back to the 2009-10 campaign.
Last season's meeting ended 6-1 in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs in Greensboro.
