Hernandez Earns Second Spot in PGA Tour
DORADO, PUERTO RICO – Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team finished in third place at the Golf Puerto Rico Tournament series at TPC Dorado Beach on Sunday to earn his second consecutive spot in the 2025 PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open.
"I'm really excited that I was able to qualify for the Puerto Rico Open again this year," said Hernandez. "I feel like this year I'm more prepared and I have more experience heading into it. I've been working really hard to qualify for this tournament again, so I'm really excited I get to play it again. We're focusing now on our two Puerto Rico college events but I'm looking forward to a great week here with all the fans and having a great time."
Hernandez finished the Golf Puerto Rico Open series with an even par (216) behind rounds of 70-74-72.
The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native will compete in the 2025 PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open from March 6-9 at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The sophomore currently stands at fourth in The Southern Conference (SoCon) with a 71.33 average across 856 strokes. He opened the 2024-25 season by winning the Bryan National Collegiate with an eight-under-par (208) with rounds of 68-69-71.
The UNCG men's golf team returns to action by hosting the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate from Feb. 9-11 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, at Palmas Del Mar Flamboyan.
