Giles Matches Career-Best 25 Points in Men’s Basketball 67-55 Win Over NC A&T
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team defeated crosstown rival North Carolina A&T, 67-55, on Saturday afternoon at Corbett Sports Center.
Three Spartans registered double figures with Kenyon Giles pacing the game with 25 points to match his career high. Donovan Atwell scored 15 points and Jalen Breath registered 10 points and 10 rebounds. This was Breath's fifth-career double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG scored first with back-to-back free throws from Atwell and the Aggies responded with two from the charity stripe themselves at 18:54. Breath made two free throws with 8:55 on the clock to put UNCG up double figures, 26-15. A&T then countered with an 18-6 run to give the Aggies a one-point lead, 33-32, with 2:34 left in the first half. Atwell drained his third three-pointer of the game and A&T concluded the half with a free throw and a layup for a one-point edge, 36-35, into the break.
After the first tied score at 38 with 19:02 in the second half, the Aggies stayed on top for the next 6:57. The score was tied two more times before the Spartans dropped 12-straight points to go up 62-50 with 6:56 remaining. The Aggies' Camian Shell hit a jumper before Breath made two free throws for a 64-52 advantage. Atwell's three-pointer at 3:22 gave the Spartans their largest lead of 15, 67-52. A&T's Jahnathan Lamothe made the final basket of the game to close the gap to 12, 67-55.
