BOSTON, MASS. – Junior guard Kenyon Giles of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team was named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week announced by CollegeInsider.com on Monday. This award is announced weekly to the top player in mid-major college basketball.
Giles paced the Spartans with 25.0 points per game over their two victories this past week to improve to 5-4 on the season. UNCG claimed a 72-68 victory over Triad foe High Point at home on Tuesday and then followed that with a 67-55 win over NC A&T down the other end of Market Street on Saturday. As of Dec. 2, the Panthers received a No. 10 Men's Mid-Major Top 25 ranking from CollegeInsider.com.
This was the Spartans' first win over the Panthers since Nov. 8, 2013, when UNCG won 82-74. The win over A&T gave UNCG a slight advantage in the series, 13-12.
The Chesapeake, Virginia, native posted a career-high 25 points and led the game against the Panthers on Tuesday where he shot 11-for-21 from field goal range and 2-for-7 from behind the arc. He also chipped in two rebounds during his 37 minutes against High Point.
Against the Aggies, Giles went 9-for-18 from the field and 5-for-10 from three-point range in his 30 minutes of action. He led the game and matched his career-best of 25 points in route to the Spartans' second-straight win. He also registered five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Giles is currently leading the Spartans averaging 17.0 points per game and 1.6 steals per game. He is nationally ranked 49th in three-pointers per game (3.00), 63rd in total three-point field goals made (27) and 67th in three-point percentage (42.9).
